Do you need a ranger or guide to hike Padar Island?

Yes, without exception. Every visitor to Komodo National Park — Padar included — is required to be accompanied by a certified park ranger for the hike. This isn’t a paid upsell some operators skip; it’s a park entry condition tied to your ticket, covered in most cases by the ranger/trekking fee described in our entrance fee guide. You cannot legally hike to the Padar viewpoint unaccompanied, and rangers stationed at the trailhead will not let an unaccompanied visitor start the climb.
