Seven days adds Rinca in more depth, sometimes Kelor Island near Labuan Bajo, and slower snorkeling stops, but it’s a meaningfully bigger time and budget commitment. Two boat categories dominate 5-day Komodo bookings: traditional wooden phinisi liveaboards (typically 4–12 cabins, air-conditioned in mid-range and above, with a shared saloon and sundeck) and smaller speedboat-based day-hop packages that dock at guesthouses each night instead of sleeping aboard — the latter is rarer for a full 5-day span because it multiplies transfer time. Cabin configurations range from shared bunks on budget open-trip boats to private ensuite cabins on mid-range and luxury phinisi. If four nights aboard a moving boat sounds tight for privacy, ask specifically about cabin size and generator/AC hours before booking — this varies far more between operators at the same price point than most comparison articles admit.

Crew typically wake guests between 04:00 and 04:30 so the tender can drop you at Padar’s small landing point while it’s still dark. The climb starts on uneven stone steps by headlamp or phone light, and the first 15 minutes are the steepest stretch of the whole trail — most groups slow down here, not near the top.

The two fixed physical commitments are the Padar sunrise climb (roughly 800–840 stone-and-wood steps, no official count published, 25–45 minutes at a steady pace) and the Komodo trek at Loh Liang (flatter, but longer in duration and hot by mid-morning). Everything else — Pink Beach, Taka Makassar, Kanawa — is beach-level and low-effort. You can include Padar on days when you are not landing on Komodo Island, provided the park-wide quota has space and your SiORA booking covers that date and session. On a five-day loop, Padar is a trekking and photography stop rather than a dive site. The waters around it are used for snorkelling and scenic cruising, and dive-focused boats concentrate their limited tank budget on the classic Komodo sites — Manta Point, the walls between Komodo and Rinca. Diving near Padar is possible and some itineraries include nearby sites in the rotation, but if you are a certified diver wanting serious underwater time, book onto a boat that says so explicitly rather than assuming a mixed itinerary will deliver it.

Dry season (roughly April through November) is when the vast majority of 5-day departures run, with clearer skies for the Padar sunrise and calmer seas for the Manta Point and Batu Bolong stops. Outside that window, some operators still run 5-day trips, but expect a higher chance of a skipped snorkel stop or a delayed departure due to swell — pack flexibility into your schedule if you’re traveling December through March.

There is no forecast station on the island, so operators work from Labuan Bajo and Komodo-area marine forecasts, and those forecasts decide which direction the loop runs and how Padar, Manta Point and the dragon treks are sequenced. For a seven-day view, use a reputable regional marine source rather than a generic weather app, and expect the plan to adapt.

Because Komodo National Park as a whole — not Padar Island alone — is now capped at 1,000 visitors per day (the park does not publish a per-session figure; divided across three sessions that implies roughly 330 each) under the park’s SIORA quota system, popular sunrise slots during the July–September and December–January peak windows can fill two to four weeks out for smaller boats and even further ahead for well-reviewed larger phinisi. Shoulder-season months (April–May, October) offer more booking flexibility with the same dry-season weather advantages.
