The boat is the budget

Komodo National Park
Plan Your Visit
A full Padar Island trip — flight, boat, park fees, and one night in Labuan Bajo — costs roughly USD 140–260 per person on a shared day trip, or USD 600–1,800+ per person on a private multi-day charter, as of August 2026. The single biggest swing factor is boat type, not the park fee itself.
Every Padar Island cost estimate online lands on a different number because they measure different trips. A backpacker joining a shared open-trip boat and a family chartering a private phinisi are both “visiting Padar Island,” but their line items barely overlap. Park fees are shown in rupiah and boat prices in US dollars, exactly as the operators quote them — nothing here is converted between currencies.
Three Sample Budgets
These are illustrative totals built from the ranges below, not fixed packages — use them to sanity-check a quote, not to replace one.

Line by Line
| Komodo National Park entry fee | USD 40–50 per day for foreign visitors (WNA); USD 20–25 per day for Indonesian citizens (WNI). No verified per-person harbor fee applies a per-boat vessel-entry charge may be billed instead, usually already folded into your trip price. This became the standard fee structure alongside the mandatory SIORA booking platform on 1 April 2026. |
|---|---|
| Boat | The single largest lever on total trip cost. Shared speedboat day trips start around USD 90 per person; private speedboat charters around USD 800 per boat per day; open-trip 3D2N from around USD 300 per person in a shared cabin; private yacht charters from around USD 5,300 per night. |
| Flights | Denpasar (Bali)–Labuan Bajo runs roughly 1 hour 15 minutes. One-way fares range from about USD 45 in low season with advance booking, up to USD 130+ for last-minute or peak-season tickets. Round-trip, budget USD 90–260. |
| Accommodation in Labuan Bajo | Guesthouses and hostels run IDR 200,000–400,000/night; proper mid-range hotels with pool, hot water and breakfast run IDR 500,000–1,500,000/night; five-star and boutique luxury properties start around IDR 2,000,000/night, rising well above that at the top end in high season. |

No — Padar is usually one stop within a wider Komodo itinerary rather than a standalone expensive site. The park fee applies to the whole park visit, not specifically to Padar, so adding Padar to a Komodo-dragon or Pink Beach day rarely adds meaningful cost beyond the extra boat time.
Yes — a shared speedboat day trip from Labuan Bajo keeps the on-water cost near USD 90–150, and pairing it with a guesthouse night keeps the full trip under USD 200 excluding flights. What a tight budget cannot buy is flexibility: shared boats run fixed departure times, so your sunrise hike happens on the boat’s schedule, not yours.
Yes. Dry season (roughly April–November) carries higher flight and boat demand and correspondingly higher prices, especially for the July–August peak. Shoulder months often combine lower prices with still-good hiking conditions.
Not typically on the park fee itself, which is charged per person under the SIORA system regardless of group size. Discounts do appear on the boat side — private charters get cheaper per person as group size grows, and some operators offer modest per-person reductions on shared open-trips booked for larger parties travelling together.
Three: the drone permit, crew tips, and the airport-to-harbour transfer. All three show up repeatedly in traveller reports: a drone permit if you plan to fly over the summit (SIMAKSI permit, roughly IDR 2,000,000/day, arranged 1–2 weeks ahead); tipping for boat crew, which is customary but rarely itemised in quotes; and the cost of getting from Labuan Bajo airport to your hotel or harbour, typically a short, inexpensive taxi ride but easy to forget when budgeting.
No — travel insurance is a separate purchase from any Padar Island tour or boat package, and none of the price ranges above assume it’s included. Given the remote-area medical realities covered in the safety guide — roughly 2–2.5 hours from the nearest hospital by boat — budgeting for a policy that covers activity in a national park setting is worth treating as a real line item, not an optional extra.
Not entirely — flights and most boat charters are quoted and settled in US dollars, while park fees, taxis, and small purchases in Labuan Bajo run in rupiah. Carrying a modest amount of rupiah cash on arrival for incidentals, alongside your USD for larger prepaid items, covers most travellers’ needs without over-converting funds you won’t use.
In advance, and now for availability rather than price. Booking ahead is the more reliable option since the 2026 SIORA pre-booking requirement removed walk-in tickets entirely; waiting until arrival risks finding your preferred dates already at the park’s daily visitor cap, regardless of what you’re willing to pay on the spot.
Yes. The SIORA-administered entrance and conservation levy applies to the park visit as a whole, not to Padar specifically, so a single day’s fee typically covers whichever combination of sites (Padar, Komodo, Rinca, Pink Beach) your itinerary includes on that visit rather than charging separately per island.
No question matches that word yet. Try a shorter term.
