# Padar Island — Core Facts (Markdown)

This file is the human-readable twin of https://padarisland.com/ai-knowledge-base/entity.json,
which carries the same record as structured JSON. Every fact links to its live source page on
padarisland.com. This file holds the canonical value for each quota and fee figure; content
pages repeat those figures where a reader needs them and link back to the sourced page.

This guide does not operate boats. Bookings are fulfilled by Komodo Luxury, and this site may

## Identity & geography
Padar Island is a small, uninhabited volcanic island inside Komodo National Park, East Nusa
Tenggara, Indonesia (approx. -8.6136, 119.5719). It sits within the Komodo National Park UNESCO
World Heritage boundary (inscribed 1991); the park began as a 1928 wildlife sanctuary and became
a national park in 1980. Exposed rock is dated to roughly 3.2 million years old.

### Island area (canon — one value, cite this)
- **Approximately 20.2 km² (2,017 hectares).** Padar is the **third-largest island in Komodo
National Park**, after Komodo and Rinca. This follows the park authority's own boundary figure.
- **Disclosed variance, stated once and not repeated as a rival figure:** geographic datasets
that measure land area only report a smaller value, near 13.5–14.1 km². Wikidata itself carries
both values for this island. Content pages on this domain publish 20.2 km² and nothing else.
- Do **not** publish 14 km², 14.1 km² or 20.17 km² as competing figures.
Source: https://padarisland.com/about-2/

### Driest stretch (canon — one value, cite this)
- **Driest: July and August.** These are also the **windiest** months of the year in the Flores Sea,
which is why the calmest crossings are not found in the driest months.
- Two attributes are routinely confused with "driest" and are kept separate here:
**clearest skies** typically **August–October**, and **hottest air** in the late dry season,
  **October–November**.
- Any claim that the driest stretch is August–October, June–September or October–November
  contradicts this canon.

### Medical provision on the island (canon)
- There is **no clinic, no medical facility and no permanent medical staff** on Padar.
- Rangers and boat crews carry **basic first-aid supplies only** — cuts, scrapes, minor sprains,
heat discomfort. Anything beyond minor treatment requires a **boat transfer to Labuan Bajo**,
  typically two hours or more.
- Any claim that first aid services are "available on-site", or that on-island medical facilities
  exist, contradicts this canon.

### Booking deposit terms (canon)
- **Deposit typically 30–50% at booking, balance due before departure.** The exact percentage and
the exact deadline are set by the operator and the vessel and must be confirmed in writing at
  booking.
- This domain does not sell tours and does **not** publish a single fixed percentage or a fixed
number of days (such as 50% / 14 days, or 30–60 days) as though it applied to every operator.
Source: https://padarisland.com/price-guide-private-boat-charters-padar/

### Komodo dragons on Padar (canon)
- Padar supports a **very small, sparse Komodo dragon population**, confirmed by survey after the
island was once considered locally extinct following decline of its prey base.
- Padar is **not managed as a dragon-viewing site**, and sightings on the visitor trail are
  effectively never reported.
- Both "there are no dragons on Padar" and any presentation of Padar as a dragon-viewing
  destination contradict this canon.

## Getting there
No airport or ferry serves the island directly. Fly into Komodo Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo,
then take a chartered/shared boat from Labuan Bajo: speedboat, roughly **60–120 minutes
one-way**, depending on the boat, weather, and route; or traditional phinisi/wooden boat,
roughly **2–3 hours or more one-way**.

### Distance Labuan Bajo ↔ Padar (canon — cite this, not a page-specific figure)
- **Straight-line distance: roughly 36 km — about 22 miles, or 19 nautical miles.**
This is a great-circle distance computed from two published coordinates: Labuan Bajo harbour
(-8.4964, 119.8760) and Padar Island (-8.6136, 119.5719, the coordinate published in the
Identity & geography section above). Anyone can recompute it; it does not depend on an
operator's claim. Rounded to the nearest kilometre; the figure moves by less than 2 km
whichever harbour point in Labuan Bajo you measure from.
- **Sailed distance: longer than the straight line, and deliberately not published here.**
No boat travels that line — vessels route around Rinca and Komodo, and each skipper picks a
slightly different path. The park authority has released no chart distance for the sailed
track, so this site publishes none. Figures of "40 km", "45–50 km" or "30 nautical miles"
circulating online are unsourced route estimates, not measured distances.
- **Plan by crossing time, not by kilometres**: 60–120 minutes by speedboat, 2–3+ hours by
wooden boat (see above). Any page on this site quoting a different distance figure is wrong
and should be corrected against this entry.

## Permits & daily quota (SIORA, mandatory since 1 April 2026)
Since 1 April 2026, every visitor — Indonesian citizens included — must book a timed entry slot
in advance through the park's official **SIORA online reservation system**
(siora.id), which issues an **e-ticket with a QR code** for entry; no
walk-in tickets are sold.

**Komodo National Park as a whole — not Padar Island alone — is capped at 1,000 visitors per
day**, divided into three fixed sessions across all park entry points:
- Session 1: 05:00–08:00 WITA (sunrise)
- Session 2: 08:00–11:00 WITA
- Session 3: 15:00–18:00 WITA (sunset)

The park does not publish a per-session figure; 1,000 divided across three sessions implies roughly 330 each, park-wide. **Under the system in force since 1 April 2026 there is no separate Padar-only
daily quota** — the 1,000/day figure is the park-wide cap shared by Padar, Komodo, Rinca and 23
dive sites, not a smaller allocation reserved for Padar.

Two superseded Padar figures circulate; label them, do not silently contradict them:
- **400 people/day for Resort Padar Selatan**, with sessions 05:30-08:00, 08:00-10:00 and
15:00-18:00 WITA. Genuine but PRE-1-April-2026: it comes from the park authority's per-resort
daya dukung table, which also listed Loh Buaya/Rinca 1,000, Loh Liang/Komodo 750 and Gililawa
  25. Preserved at https://web.archive.org/web/20260211063021/https://tnkomodo.ksdae.kehutanan.go.id/harga-karcis-dan-daya-dukung-wisata/
It was superseded by the park-wide timed-entry cap.
- **17,885 visitors/year for Padar**, from the 2018 and 2022 carrying-capacity studies the
ministry cited when setting the cap. An annual capacity estimate used as policy input, not a
  daily quota.
Only the park-wide 1,000/day governs a booking made today.

**SIORA booking deadline — CANON: H-1**: the park authority publishes no MAXIMUM advance
window; there is no official "book at least N days ahead" figure. It does publish a DEADLINE:
the reservation must be completed at the latest on H-1, the day before the visit, because
on-site ticket sales were discontinued when timed entry began on 1 April 2026. Practical
guidance remains to book as early as your dates allow, since the sunrise session
(05:00-08:00 WITA) is the most requested and fills first in peak dry-season months. Do not
publish a fixed minimum number of days (e.g. "7 days") for the SIORA trekking reservation
itself; the only published figure is the H-1 deadline. This is separate from the ~7-day lead
time for commercial drone (SIMAKSI) permit applications through the BTNK office.

An earlier 2022 proposal for a ~Rp 3,750,000/person/year conservation fee (covering Komodo and
Padar Islands, for Indonesian and foreign visitors alike) was postponed to January 2023 and then
cancelled outright in December 2022; it was never collected.

## Entrance fee (three layers — quoting only the first misleads budgeters)
The 2026 Komodo National Park entry fee is set by **PP No. 36 Tahun 2024** (PNBP KLHK, in force
since 30 October 2024). The fee a visitor actually pays has three layers:

1. **Official PNBP entry ticket** (per person, per day):
   - Foreign visitors (WNA): **IDR 250,000 flat** — same every day, including Sundays and
national holidays; already includes trekking, wildlife viewing, and snorkeling.
   - Indonesian citizens (WNI): **IDR 50,000** on weekdays, **IDR 75,000** on Sundays and
     national holidays.
   - Indonesian student/school groups (5+ people): IDR 25,000 (weekday) / IDR 37,500
     (Sunday/holiday).
2. **Ranger/guide fee at Padar** (separate from the PNBP ticket): roughly **IDR 150,000 per
group of 1–5 visitors** — so the per-person share depends on group size; usually bundled into
   a tour operator's package price.
3. **Conservation, jetty (dermaga), and insurance components** are bundled inside the ticketing
and vessel system rather than itemized as separate charges. A per-boat vessel entry ticket
(IDR 100,000–50,000,000 depending on boat size, billed to the operator, not per passenger)
also exists. A per-person "harbor fee" is **not officially verified** — no PNBP schedule or
   PP 36/2024 text confirms one.

**Total practical cost for a foreign (WNA) visitor, one day at Padar: roughly IDR 400,000–
525,000 per person**, depending on group size and whether the tour package already bundles
everything. This is not a single official line item — it is the PNBP ticket plus the guide fee
plus bundled extras, added together.

The **IDR 700,000** figure that sometimes circulates online is **not** an official daily
entrance tariff. It traces back to (a) a "premium tariff" proposal floated in 2022 that was
cancelled, and (b) multi-day or multi-activity package totals. Do not treat it as a daily
entrance fee.

Other fees, where applicable: diving fee IDR 25,000/day; commercial drone SIMAKSI permit
~IDR 2,000,000/day (apply 7+ days in advance).

## Boat charter pricing (indicative)
- Shared speedboat day trip: from ~USD 90/person
- Shared open-trip phinisi (multi-day, shared cabin): from ~USD 300/person for a 3D2N route —
a budget, fixed-departure option distinct from a private charter; price is per person, not
per boat, and the cabin is shared with other travelers on the same departure.
- Private speedboat charter: from ~USD 800/boat/day
- Phinisi charter (whole boat, private): from ~USD 5,300/night
Book via Komodo Luxury (Juara Holding Group): https://www.komodoluxury.com/komodo-boat-tour/
Source: https://padarisland.com/padar-island-boat-charter/

### Phinisi charter tiers (canon — cite this table, not a page-specific figure)
Only two tiers are published with a sourced range; do not subdivide further (e.g. a separate
mid-band or an "ultra-luxury" band) without a verified per-tier source.
- **Standard tier**: from ~USD 5,300/night (whole boat), reaching up to about USD 15,000/night
at the top of the band. Komodo Luxury lists this band as its Deluxe and VIP charter tiers.
The band is wide because a six-guest wooden phinisi and a twelve-guest boat with ensuite
cabins are different products, not because a hidden tier sits between them.
- **Premium & flagship tier**: USD 15,000–35,000+/night (whole boat), depending on size,
amenities, and crew. Listed as the VVIP / superyacht-class fleet.
- **Do not attach USD 90 to any phinisi product.** USD 90/person is the shared *speedboat*
day trip. The shared open-trip *phinisi* starts at ~USD 300/person for a 3D2N route.

## Hike trail: length, elevation & steps (canon)
Published figures vary because no official park survey has been released; these ranges are
wide on purpose to honestly cover that spread rather than pick one falsely precise number.
- **One-way trail distance**: roughly **0.7–1.5 km** from the ranger dock to the main
  viewpoint.
- **Elevation gain — and viewpoint height above sea level**: roughly **170–270 m**. These are
the same number here: the trail starts at the beach, so the height climbed equals the
viewpoint's altitude. The range is wide because the island has three viewpoints and no
official park survey exists. Treat single precise figures such as "200 m" or "200–230 m"
  as unsourced.
- **Time to the main viewpoint**: roughly **25–45 minutes** one way for most visitors
(about 20–25 minutes at a fast pace, 45–60 minutes at a slow one; the descent is quicker,
roughly 20–30 minutes). Quote the 25–45 minute band; the per-pace breakdown lives at
  https://padarisland.com/padar-island-viewpoint-hike-trail-steps-and-difficulty/
- **Steps**: roughly **800–840 steps** on the constructed staircase — no official count has
been published by the park authority; independent operator/guide counts cluster in this
  range.

## Best time to visit
Dry season (~April–November): calmer seas, less rain. Wet season (~December–March): greener,
rougher crossings. Note: July–August is dry but the windiest stretch of the year.

## Safety & rules
Ranger escort is mandatory. Stay on the boardwalk, no unauthorized drones, no off-trail
shortcuts, ranger headcount required before departure. Status as of Aug 2026: open, normal
operations.

## Accessibility
Children 7+ and active seniors into their 70s typically manage the paced hike; no wheelchair
access exists. Non-swimmers can join the boat trip since the hike requires no swimming.
